March 24th, 2007 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM
Master Jazz Bassist, Dave Shapiro will provide a half day Jazz Workshop for
WNEDBS. If you are interested in the Double Bass and Jazz music, you
must register! Come, learn and enjoy!
What: Double Bass Jazz Workshop
Where: Northampton Community Music Center (NCMC)
When: March 24th, 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM
Cost: $50.00
A preliminary agenda for the workshop:
1.) Discussion and demonstration of how to play with different types of
drummers (using play along CDs).
2.) Review of Lee Konitz' 10-level melodic approach to improvising:
"Lee Konitz has developed an approach to improvisation based on a
10-level system. The first, and most important, level is the song
itself . It then progresses incrementally through more sophisticated
stages of embellishment, gradually displacing the original theme with
new ones. The process culminates in the creation of an entirely new
melodic structure. Konitz calls this final level "an act of pure
inspiration." - David Kastin, Downbeat Magazine, December 1985.
3.) Four part chords and inversions.
Dave Shapiro is interested to know specifically what us registrants want
to learn; email me your interests and I will forward them to Dave.
